6 things I'm loving now..

*derek and morgans infinite playlist. I stumbled across this cd the other day and couldn't help but smile. I loaded it onto my computer and my ipod. I made this cd for derek almost 3 years ago- it included songs by fiest, sarah mclaughlan, radiohead, jack johnson and a couple others. out first trip away together was to victoria and we stayed overnight and attended some free outdoor concerts including fiest and sarah- we had such a good time and following that I made this cd and included those artists. the others are just some of our favourite road trip tunes. it was a nice surprise to stumble upon it :)

*halls lozenges- so, on the weekend I wasn't feeling quite myself. I had some vitamin c halls lozenges and each individual wrapper had a little inspirational quote on it! how adorable! totally, totally awesome. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff!

*blazers- I have been searching for one that I really like and I found these two from forever 21. cuteness! I have to order one of them pretty quick. thoughts and opinions? I can't decide!

*the glass castle-- just finished this book and absolutely loved it! definitely a must read if you haven't already.

*my sunroof- even though my car is basically an antique, doesn't have a gas door, has squeaky brakes, has a speedometer that only works when it wants to and several other quirks, I am totally so thankful for my sunroof. letting the sun shine in is wonderful, even if I have to struggle to get the sun roof open from time to time :)

*this post from carrots 'n' cake- oh my goodness, is their pug cute or WHAT! wow.

originally this list was 7 things and I included the sweet video of acro yoga allstars joe and steph doing some AMAZING stuff. unfortunately, that didn't upload and I was really disappointed. I'm sorry :(

abby's birthday.

abby celebrated her 3rd birthday this weekend! she was showered with gifts, cupcakes and love.

it was great to have the chance to celebrate with her- I can't even believe she is 3 already. how time flies.

the rest of the day was spent doing errands, enjoying the sunshine, and perhaps a little shopping..
I picked up the shorts in the above picture, the dress pictured below and a pair of really cute light wash jeans all from the gap.  thanks to giftcards I only spent $15- a good deal if you ask me!

then it was dinner time.. I got the idea for this fish from how sweet it is. it was super simple to put together and turned out great.

I also made some potatoes with green onions and dill and some broccoli.  as much as I don't like broccoli I have been actively trying to incorporate more veggies into every meal. if anyone has some tips on that then let me know!  I seem to eat the same veggies a lot so I am trying to switch it up.

I also have been really wanting some jeggings lately- scored myself a black pair and a cute long sleeve t from the gap today for $30! man I love a good deal. the jeggings will go great with one of the cute tops I got from H&M yesterday.

I managed to get out for a run this afternoon- it was overcast today but a perfect temperature to get outside. spring is coming! back to yoga tomorrow! should be lovely- 2 days without yoga is 2 too many :)

red carpet at the oscars

happy monday everyone!

i have to be honest, this year oscar dresses just didn't do it for me. i feel like everyone went for the same trend this year, pretty & feminine, which don't get me wrong is lovely on, but aren't oscar dresses are all about dramatic colors, fabrics, low cuts, long trails and interesting details? it seemed like everyone opted for the safe look, and i guess i can't say i blame them. with that being said i did manage to find a few favorites:

on a more positive fashion note, i spent my yesterday in saskatoon buying at a trade show for work, and oh my god. fashion next fall is going to be ah-mazing. i cant wait, cardis and sweaters at no end, silk and tapered button-ups, camel and creams everywhere. yesterday felt like i christmas morning, except i have to wait til august to actually own my christmas presents!

springing into spring

this melting, slushy weather lately is making me happy for one reason only: spring is just around the corner! and the best part about spring is new spring collections! working at a clothing store i have become obsessed with reading spring look books and anxiously awaiting weekly shipments. here are a few of my spring must-haves:

feathers are so popular for spring this year in headbands, hairclips, rings, necklaces...everywhere! this particular one is from headmistress, a company based out of vancouver, that has great adorable & affordable spring pieces.

this sheer bohemian style beach cover-up is cute and best of all so versatile. wear it over your bathing suit to the beach, over a tank and leggings to go shopping in, and then add heals and some pretty jewelry for night time. this one is available at topshop's online store.

sandle wedges are so hot for spring this year, perfect for the beach and nights out. this adorable brown leather pair are available at forever 21's online shop.

don't know about everyone else, but for me, the snow CANNOT melt faster!!

newest shoe affair

twice in one week! my luck for finding great shoes keeps continuing.  while shopping at a great vintage/used clothing store in regina yesterday, i found this adorable vintage pair of vera wang flats.  it just goes to show, there are some amazing pieces waiting to be discovered everywhere, even in small cities!  and the best part of all... i paid $15 for them : )

a scarf's story

this pale pink, knitted scarf is the newest addition to my collection and definitely one of my favorites!  it's light material, solid & subtle color, and perfect length make it great for anytime of year.  it has an elastic throughout the entire length, so it can be worn bunchy or long.  my mom is usually very hesitant about picking out christmas presents that that i'll like, but i got to hand it to her; she did a pretty good job on this one.

on the red carpet at the golden globes

hands down, thee best part of any awards show, is the red carpet.  tonight while i was on the elliptical at the gym, i managed to watch the whole hour of the pre-show on the red carpet!  i got to see everyone's choice of dress for the evening, their date and burned a good 600 cals while doing so!  here is my top 5 dresses i fell in love with tonight...  (in no specific order)

i am so into rich greens, and pale pinks/salmons right now, which pretty much explains my top five.  the emerald hues that angelina and mila are in look awesome on brunettes and definitely flatter any skin tone.  angelina's green is so different and has a cool vintage look to it.  mila's emerald is so rich, it has the most luxurious, classical feel to it, i love it.  again, same with the pale pink, so nice with dark hair, and definitely compliments sandra and lea's skin.  i feel like emma took such a big a risk with the color of her dress.  i would have never paired a salmon dress with platinum hair and a spray tan...but when all is said and done, she looks amazing.

when you can't find the perfect newyears dress...

being an intern has it’s ups & downs, the biggest downer, hands down, is no income.  while i have done pretty good until now, controlling my spending and tring to stretch out my savings account as much as possible, the time has come to take drastic measures.  while I feel rent and groceries cannot be compromised, new years outfits can(…i guess…).  and while it’s probably possible to find a decent priced dress from f21 or h&m, i’m bored by the same tacky satin, empire waisted, and too short hemlined dress that makes you blend in with everyone else.  i have decided to take it upon myself this year to make the ultimate and perfect new years dress.

these are sketches of the dress i’m going to make myself.  simple, feminine and very YSL inspired.  made from black velvet, the dress will be comfortably fitted with a narrow pencil-like bottom, hemmed just above the knee.  the neckline is an exteremely deep sweetheart, with a gold emroided embellishment.

while I have never made a garment from start to finish, I have been there to witness the process.  i have 4 good friends, who hold fashion design degrees and though none of them live close, I am definitely planning on making good use of their expertise.  oh and I can’t forget about my sewing machine, 90years old; passed down from my great grandma.
